Vincent Thompson was a star on the Cheyney Track team during the early 80’s and graduated in 1985 with a B.S. in Recreation. His mark of 10.49 in the 100 meters from 1983 still stands as the school record. He also owns part of the school record in the 4 X 200 meter relay. A mark of 1.28.00 obtained at the 1982 Penn Relays is still the time to beat in the Cheyney record book. His team mates on that famed relay squad included Robert Reese, Tracy Taylor and Wes Whitaker.
During the 1980 track season, Thompson also garnered All-PSAC honors. He finished third in the 100 meters (10.89) at the PSAC Championships missing out of the top spot by .02. He finished fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 22 seconds flat. In that famed season, Thompson was undefeated in the 100 and 200 meters heading into the conference championships. He was the only member of the squad to score in the meet as Cheyney was credited with 8 points. He singled handedly out-scored Mansfield.
On campus, Thompson was active outside of athletics. He was an officer in student government and was the Founder and President of Men Achieving Knowledge (MAK) Social Fellowship with 150 members.
Since he left Cheyney, Thompson has been working with troubled youth. He was a Counselor for troubled youth with the Boys & Girls Club, a case manager representing troubled youth in court with the Delaware YMCA and Psychiatric Technician for Behavior Children at Belmont Einstein Hospital.
Thompson, the father of two adult children, Venise and Vinetta;and the grandfather of two is now retired.
