Michael K. Brown was a walk-on and became a great defensive back for the Wolves in the early 70’s. According to Coach Flynn, “Some defensive back covers extremely well while others support the run extremely well. Mike did both well.” In coverage, Mike was a shut-down corner before shut-down became popular. In run support, he was a fierce tackler that his teammates affectionately nicknamed “M-Bea-Ski.” Mike was considered a coach on the field, and was the prototype for the long list of great defensive backs to play for Cheyney.

He is a member of the Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame and has received a Lifetime Community Service Award from the Greater Wilmington Youth Athletic Association.

When Mike’s military and college careers ended, he played semi-pro baseball. For 15 years he played with an elite softball team, “Clifco.”

In the early 90’s, Mike was persuaded to coach youth football, specifically, the Trojans youth football team. Eventually he became one of the founders of W.E.M.A. (Williams, Evans, Mason, Anderson), a youth organization, for which he earned a lifetime achievement award.

In 2004, Mike inducted into the Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame for achievements in football and currently serves as the organization’s Vice-President.

He stills holds the record for most carries in the Delaware Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game.

Mike retired after many years of service to the Speakman Company and now lives with his wife, Renita in New Castle, Delaware. He has four children and seven grandchildren.
