Erwin graduated from Cheyney in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. While a student-athlete he earned four letters in wrestling and one in cross country. His freshman season he wrestled at 167 pounds. Subsequent years saw Erwin grappled at 177 and 190 pounds. Erwin earned All-PSAC honors for two seasons and qualified for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championship in 1990 and 1991. Erwin went to the earn his Masters Degree in Administration of Secondary Schools from Central Michigan University and is presently pursuing his Doctorate of Philosophy Degree. Upon graduation from Cheyney, Erwin returned to his native Saginaw, Michigan where he has been working for the Saginaw Public School System ever since. Erwin has held the position of Wrestling Coach, Secondary Teacher, Assistant Principal, Vice-Principal, Driver's Education Instructor and Principal. He currently serves as the Director of Student Support Services and Athletics for Saginaw Public Schools. Erwin also has an extensive military career having been commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation from Cheyney.
