Hall of Fame
Sparky received his early education in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania adn graduated from William Penn High. In 1949, he entered Cheyney State Teachers College graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1953. He was a star basketball player his sophomore and junior year at Cheyney and was coached by the legendary CU Hall of Famer, Coach O'Shields. He went to purse his studies at Temple University.
Sparky worked for the Philadelphia Board of Education at Spring Garden Elementary School for approximately one month when he was drafted into the Armed Forces. He sereved in South Korea for two years before returning to Spring Garden Elementary after his tour of duty. Teaching childern became in a career that lasted over 35 years. Due to his love of athletics and talent for organization, he became the Assitant Director of Elementary Level Track and Field Events for the Penn Relays. He retired from teaching in 1993. Saprky waas an active member of the North West Chapter of the Cheyney Alumni Association and later became its' President. The North West Chapter became well known for its' financial contributions to Cheyney University and Cheyney students. During his presidency, the North West Cahpter formed a mentoring program between students and Cheyney graduates. Through this program students were introduced to the rich history and traditions of Cheyney and the many avenues of success that Cheyney offers.
Sparky also worked with the graduates of the Class of '53 so that this class could assist Cheyney in its' endeavors to educaet students. The class of ' 53 has become one of the largest financial contributors to the university. Sparky continues to give back to the University asa member of the Hall of Fame Committee, a committee which he has chaired in the past.
