Leach competed in track and field (1980-1983) as well as football (1979-1983) for the Wolves. He was a two-time (1982 & 1983) state champion in the discus. His 1983 toss of 167'8" earned him all-state honors. In 1983, he also finished second in the shot put and was named Most Valuable Player - Field Events.

After a couple of years as a Data Processing Recruiter for Steinberg and Meehan, Leach joined the Delaware River Port Authority in 1989 and worked as a Police Officer before retiring in 2002. Since his retirement from the DRPA, Leach has been a Police Officer for Willingboro Township. A position holds today.

Leach continues to be involved in athletics. Since 1991,Leahc has been recognized as one of the best in the bench press. In 1991, he was the New Jersey State Law Enforcement Bench Press Champion. He won the title again in 1993. In 1996, he was crowned AAU National Bench Press Champion - All Natural Division. He was also crowned United States Powerlifting Federatino (USPF) Champion - Fire and Police. He was 95 in the country in his wieght class. 2000 and 2001 saw Leach as the 100% Raw All Natural Bench Press World Champion. In 2001, Leach was also crowned USPF Natural Bench Press Champion.

Leach, a resident of Camden, New Jersey, married his college sweetheart and has two children, John IV (16) and Andrea (11).
