Cheyney University

David Somerville came to Cheyney in 1972 after a successful prep career at Springarn HS in Washington, DC.  He graduated four years later with a degree in Urban Studies and as one of the best defensive backs to ever put on a Cheyney jersey. 
He still ranks as the Wolves all-time leader in interceptions with 12.  During the 1974 campaign he was credited with nine picks in only seven games played and ranked second in the nation in interceptions.  As a starting corner back he earned all-conference honors in 1974 and 1975. 
He was referred to as the first great defensive back in a long list of great defensive backs to play for the Wolves.
