While attending Cheyney, Baker was astand out on the basketball and cross country teams. She was co-captain her seinor year.
On the court Leslie could best be described as a "ball hawk". She was the defensive specialist on the team and often drew the job of guarding the opposing teams' top scorer. Her aggressive and tenacious play caused opposing players to aviod her as much possible. During her final year, Leslie accepted the challenge to join Cheyney cross country team and complete in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship. Even thoguh she had completed the previous years, Leslie was the lead runner, for the Lady Wolves, through a mud covered three miles course.
Baker continued to be active in the game she loved. After graduating from Cheyney in 1991 with a Bachelors of Arts in Soical Relations, Baker was named Assistant Coach at Florida Atlantic University. From the Boca Raton School, she moved to Nova Southeastern University where she stayed for four years. While at Nova Southeastern, she obtained her Master of Science in Elementary education. In 1998, she began her teaching career. She has been a mainstay at Walker Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she currently teaches third grade. For the past four years, she has been the head JV Girls Basketball Coach.
