Hall of Fame
Fleming graduated from Cheyney in 1934. Fleming was the rare three sport athele during the earyl 1930s at the Cheyney Normal School. He was a member of the football and basketball squads as well as a member of the track and field team where he excelled. He was a member of the one-mile relay squad that won the Normal School Championship of America at the Penn Relays in 1932. The squad posted a blistering time of 3:33.4 to bring home the gold medal. Fleming also started at right guard his senior year and was also captain of the football team in 1934. Several of Fleming's teammates, including Wade Wilson, Rufus Johnson and James Moore have all been inducted into Cheyney Athletic Hall of Fame. After his days at Cheyney, Mr. Fleming went on to become a teacher and mentor in the Wilmington, Delaware School system. Fleming was a product of Howard High School in the Wilmington school district.
