Team Captain for the Varsity Baasketball Team from 1956-57, Jaems was on the team for four years as a forward and earned the reputation of high scorer averaging 18-21 points per game. After graduating in 1957, James played basketball for a number of years in the top amateur Philadelphia League and continued to rank among the high scorers. On a professional level, he became an educator in the Philadelphia School District where he was employed for more than 41 years. James served as an elementary school teacher for 13 years and served in the capacity of prinicial for more than 27 years.
