Charles C. Jones was born in Philadelphia and attended public school there, graduating from Dobbins Tech in 1964. While attending Dobbins he lettered in both football and track. He credits his participation in sports with keeping him away from the gang culture that was prevalent at the time.
Upon graduation Charles attended Cheyney State College. There he continued his participation in football and track. He played three seasons for the Wolves as a defensive end, defensive tackle and middle linebacker.
He was a member of the team that won its first modern era game against Kutztown and the first Cheyney football team to have a winning season since joining the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in 1959. In 1966, as a member of the Cheyney Track and Field team, Charles earned All-PSAC honors after winning the gold medal in shot put.
Upon graduation in 1969, Charles began a career in teaching. He soon after received his Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education from Rutgers University as well as certificate as a principal/supervisor. Charles served with distinction as an educator and school administrator in the Camden City School District for over thirty years before his retirement.
He also served as the President of the local American Federation of School Administrators and as a member of the Camden City Alcoholic Beverage Control Board for 20 years, where he has the honor of being chairman.
Additionally, in 1965 while an undergraduate, Charles was indicted into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and is a life member. He has served as a graduate Chapter President, a Province Board Member and is a recipient of the prestigious James H. Kidd Award.
