Albert (Al) Harris, Jr is a 1960 graduate of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. He played Varsity Basketball and had the distinction to start every game during his college career (1959-60). He served as the Team Captain, during his Junior & Senior years (1958-60). Al was active in the Undergraduate Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Serving as Vice Polemarch (1959-60). After leaving Cheyney, he was named Most Vaulbe Player (MVP) in the Cape Cod, Massachusetts Semi-Pro Basketball League (1965).
Al Harris, Jr. retired after 30 years as Associate Director of Extension and Community Programs for Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. At one point in his career, he and his staff coordinated the activities of almost 700 employees through a non-profit New York City vending agency contract. Al is the Founder, President, & CEO of the Greater Bethel Community Development Corporation (2003-2007). He has served as an active member of the African American Faith Partnership. Al currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Prostate Foundation. He is also active in the Greater Phoenix and Arizona State political arena. Al is the proud father of five children and 12 grandchildren. He served as Polemarch for the Newark, Nj Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, for 10 years. He is an active member of the Greater Bethel AME Church for over eight years, having served as the Administrative Assistant to the Paster for four years. He organized the first Cheyney Alumni Chapter in the state of Arizona in 2007 !!!
