Hall of Fame
Don Hackney played basketball at Northeast High School in Philadelphia with basketball legends James Tee Parham, Sonny Hill and Herb Adderley. He also played against the likes of Ray Chink Scott and Wilt Chamberlian. At Cheyney State Teachers' College he played until a hip injury ended his basketball career. But that mishap did not keep him away from the game. Upon graduating from Cheyney in 1961, he went on to coach youngsters in basketball and softball at the Columbia Branch of the YMCA, Sonny Hill Futures League, Sonny Hill College Team, Charles Baker League Pro Team, Huntingdon Valley Senior Basketball Team, Kappa Alpha Psi Alumni Basketball Team, and the Edison High School girls' varsity basketball and softball Teams.
Don has been involved with many philanthropic efforts to improve the lives of students at Cheyney University. As Chairman of the Men BACA's Fund Raising Committee he helped rasie $23,000 for the Cheyney Band in 1980. As a member of the Men BACA, he has been part of the "Loyal Sons of Cheyney" that contributed over $300,000 over the past 50 years. He was served as President of the Cheyney University C Club and helped raise more than $25,000 dedicated to athletics. He served the University as a representative on five separate search committees. Don has given back to other areas of the University besides athletics. He served as Homecoming Chairman. He is currently Chairman of the Class of ' 61 reunion committee and is spearheading an effort to raise an endowment pledge of $61,000 to be granted in 2011.
In 2015 Don was elected as teh Chairman of the Hall of Fame Committee.
