Tonya Slayton-Barnes graduated from Cheyney in 2003 and immediately went to work as a Recreational Therapist at Inglis House, a disabled resident home. She stayed there for five years.
While at Cheyney, Slayton-Barnes earned varsity ketters in four sports.She was a standout on the basketball court but also participated in volleyball, track and tennis. She left Cheyney have scored just uner 1,000 points and grabbed just under 1,000 rebounds.
Slayton-Barnes was an all around athlete. As a volleyball player she led the team in blocks four years in a row and ranked second in digs. On the track she competed in the long jump, 100 m and 4x400 relay. Her senior year she was awarded the Presidential Award for her academic and athletic achievements.
Tonya continues to act as a personal trainer and also works for the Eagle Eye Ent. and Zoagies Food Truck.
