IRVING, Texas – Eight Cheyney University football players were among the record number of players honored as the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced the members of the 2018 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. An all-time high 1,271 players from a record 307 schools qualified for membership in the society's 12th year.

Keon Hughes,
Jowan Lewis-Kearse, Anwar-Nasser Mathis and
Dominick Trautz each met the criteria to earn membership.
Samuel Anojulu, who was a 2017 William V. Campbell Trophy® semi-finalist from the NFF, graduated from Cheyney in December, with a degree in Business and earned was voted onto the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team.
The Allentown, Pa. native, finished a four-year career with 148 tackles two interceptions a fumble recovery and a score in 2016 at West Chester, had a career-high 72 tackles including five for a loss in 2017.
Jeffrey Bell, who is on track to graduate in May with a Business Administration degree, made an appearance in all 11 games in his only season with the Cheyney football team and made 11 tackles during the season.
Bradley Dardas, who is on track to graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice in May, appeared in 29 games over four years and accumulated 27 tackles with a career-high 16 during the 2017 season.
Keyson Dingle, who was also named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team, is on schedule to graduate with a Degree in Business in May, was chosen as a second team All-PSAC performer on defense and earned PSAC-East Defensive Player of the Week accolades for his with five tackles for loss and two sacks performance in the home opening victory over Lincoln.
The Bayonne, N.J. native was very consistent in his three years as a starter and finished his career with 208 tackle 23.5 for a loss with six sacks and three forced fumbles.
Keon Hughes, was named an honorable mention selection Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star, earned First-Team East all-PSAC honors at center in 2017, after being selected by the coaches as the center on the second-team in 2016.
The Staten Island, N.Y. native is on track to graduate with a degree in was also a third-team selection on the Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Area Team in 2016.
Hughes, who started all 22-games since arriving on campus, stepped into a veteran offensive line in 2016 with four seniors, was the captain of the unit in 2017 that featured all-new starters at each position other than center. The line did not allow a sack until the third game of the season, and helped Cheyney put up 56 points in the first half against Lincoln.
Jowan Lewis-Kearse, who is track to graduate with a business degree in May, made a career-high 29 receptions for 273 yards in 2017 and finished a four-year career with 41 catches for 520 yards in 30 appearnces.
Lewis-Kearse has taken his talents onto the track and field team by earning all-PSAC honors in the long jump and triple jump and all region accolades in the triple jump during the indoor season.
The Auburn, Georgia native currently owns the longest triple jump in the PSAC and the second-best in the Atlantic Region.
Anwar-Nasser Mathis, who is on track to graduate with a Business Accounting degree in May, split time at quarterback and wide receiver during his career at Cheyney, making 32 appearances.
The Philadelphia, Pa. native accounted for 354 yards passing with a touchdown, 213 yards receiving and 272 return yards.
Dominick Trautz, who is on track to graduate in May with a degree in Criminal Justice, made 39 appearances and threw for 3,934 yards and 23 touchdowns including a career-high 12 scores in 2017.
The Guttenberg, N.J. threw for five touchdowns and ran for another to account for six touchdowns in the first half as Cheyney put up, a school record, 56 first half points in the season opening victory in the Battle of the First vs Lincoln.
Cheyney University led all PSAC schools with eight 2018 Hampshire Honor Society members.
