Cheyney (0-3) came out on the short of a 59-6 decision against the Clarion Golden Eagles (3-0).

Things went south for the Wolves fight from the get go.  The Wolves won the toss and elected to receive but the Cheyney threw an interception on their first play from scrimmage.  The Eagles capitalized by finding the end-zone on an eight play 52 yard drive that capped when Connor Simmons hit Delrece Williams on a nine yard strike for the touchdown.  Cheyney was forced to punt on their second possession and once again the Eagles were able to put points on the board.  After a nine play drive the Wolves were able to force the Eagles to convert a 30 yard field goal.

The Wolves got back in the game early in the second quarter.  Quarterback Dominick Trautz connected with tight end Christian Sanchez on a 66 yard reception.  After a failed PAT, the Wolves were trailing 10-6.  Midway through the second quarter another Cheyney turnover led to a Clarion touchdown as the Eagles forced a fumble and recovered the ball in the end-zone.  The Eagles were able to take advantage of two additional fumbles deep in the Wolves own territory.  Both led to touchdowns as the teams headed into the locker room at half time with the Wolves trialing 31-6.

The second half was not any better for Cheyney.   The Eagles posted two more touchdowns, including an interception return for a score.  Another touchdown in the fourth quarter capped the scoring on the afternoon.

The Wolves struggled on offense all afternoon.  Cheyney only recorded five first downs while turning the ball over five times.  The Wolves were credited with 52 yards rushing and 92 yards passing.  Rashod Knight and Joe Bryant led the Wolves on the defensive side with each recording eight tackles.  Knight was also credited with 3.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

Clarion's quarterback Connor Simmons was 17 of 31 for 221 yards and four touchdowns, while KaDarrius Campbell led all players with 72 yards rushing (one touchdown) on 14 carries.  Simmons favorite receiver on the afternoon was Matt Lehman.  The junior caught six passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns.

After spending the last two weeks on the road, Cheyney returns the Wolves return home next weekend to face PSAC East foe Kutztown.  Kick-off in O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium is 1:00 PM.
