Box Score Eugene Moten had three kick returns for 85 yards to lead the Wolves but it was nearly enough as Cheyney (0-2:0-1) fell to Gannon (2-0:1-0) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football match-up. For the second week in a row, the Cheyney defense was led by Isaiah Fleming. The Delaware native recorded 19 total tackles including four for loss as well as a sack.
Things started out well for the Wolves as Will Martin intercepted Gannon quarterback Liam Nadler on the third play from scrimmage to give Cheyney the ball at midfield. The Wolves were able to march down to the Knights 25-yard line but turned the ball over on downs. Gannon would score on their next two possessions to take a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter the Wolves defense was able to stop the Knights on their first possession but Gannon rallied for touchdowns the next three times they got the ball to take a 35-0 lead into the locker room at half-time.
Cheyney turned the ball over to start the third quarter and the Kinghts quickly capitalized finding the end-zone was again. A final score on Gannon's first possession of the fourth quarter provided the margin of victory.
The wet conditions hindered both teams passing attack although the Knights were able to record a long pass play when Nadler teamed up with Will Davis for a 54 yard strike down the middle of the field for a touchdown. It was the longest play of the afternoon. Brock and Tyler Johnson paced the Knights rushing attack with 111 and 110 yards respectively. Jones scored four touchdowns while Johnson added two.
The Cheyney rushing attack only garnered 19 yards with the passing game securing 29. Cheyney used two quarter backs. Michael Campbell was three for 10 with two interceptions and Anwer Mathis was 3-5 for 20 yards.
Cheyney, still looking for its first win in the Anthony Johnson era is back in action next Saturday at home against Clarion. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 PM. Gannon hosts Kutztown at Noon.
