Box Score

Cheyney University (0-4:0-2) fell 40-6 to East Stroudsburg (3-1:1-1) in PSAC football action. Cheyney wide receiver Marquis Garcia- Palmercaught five passes for 102 yards but it was not enough to overcome the 430 yards the Warriors racked up through the air. The Cheyney front seven was able to put a lot of pressure on the ESU quarterback, sacking him four times but the signal caller was still able to find his targets. Javier Garcia, Isaiah Fleming, Robert Brooks and Travis Elliot each registered one sack apiece.

Cheyney signal caller Darryl Cosby was 11 of 21 for 163 yards but two interceptions thwarted Cheyney scoring opportunities. The Wolves ground attack was led by Marcus Jones and Nahum Purdie. Jones carried the ball 11 times for 49 yards and Purdie 15 for 47 including the Wolves lone score, a nine yard scamper around left end.

The Wolves started the game with the ball only to go three and out. However, the Cheyney defense forced a fumble, only East Stroudsburg's second turnover of the season, and the Wolves took possession at midfield. On Cheyney's first play from scrimmage the Wolves returned the favor with an interception that the Warriors were able to capitalize on. Taking over on their own 25, signal caller Matt Soltes orchestrated a six play 75 yard drive that resulted with Thomas Trippett rush of one yard for the game's first score. On the Warriors next offensive play from scrimmage, Soltes teamed up with Steve Jones for the first of three scores on the afternoon with an 80 yard catch and run. Midway through the second quarter the pair teamed up again on the same play down the middle of the field for a 53 yard catch and run. The Wolves lone score came on their ensuing drive, an eight play 61 yard drive that ate up 3:38 and was capped off by Purdie's run. The PAT was blocked. Tippett tacked on another touchdown as time expired in the second quarter to give the Warriors a 27-6 lead at intermission. Jones and Soltes connected again in the third quarter on a three yard strike. Soltes called his own number early in the fourth quarter, a six yard keeper up the middle to round out the scoring.

ESU signal caller Soltes was 19 of 33 for 387 and three touchdowns. Receivers Robert Bleiler caught seven passes for 154 yard and Steve Jones four for 144 and three touchdowns.

The Wolves hit the road again on Saturday with a trip to Mercyhurst. Game time is slated for 1:00 pm.
