Box Score
The Wolves took it on the chin falling 49-0 to nationally ranked Indiana (PA). "This is one of the best teams in the PSAC," commented Coach Ken Lockard. "We are not going to face many teams as good as that."
The Wolves got off to a rough start. The River Hawks took the opening kick-off and after six plays found the end-zone. On the Wolves first play from scrimmage, Cheyney fumbled the ball, their only turnover on the afternoon which led to another IUP score. IUP found the end-zone on each of their first seven possessions.
The Wolves had two successful drives in the first half and one in the second half. Cheyney was able to march down the field 70 yards in 14 plays only to turn the ball over on downs at the IUP 5 yard line. The Wolves also put together an 11 play 52 yard drive as the half came to end with the Wolves at the IUP 29. In the second half, Darryl Cosby orchestrated a 13 play drive that stalled on the River Hawks 26 yard line.
The Cheyney offense struggled only producing 189 yards; 115 of which came on the ground. Cosby led the Wolves with 32 yards on seven attempts. Cosby along with Adler Thony were a combined 10-18 for 74 yards. Khalif Dandy caught six passes for 36 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Javier Garcia led the way with six tackles.
The good news was that the turnovers and penalties were down from last week. Cheyney only turned the ball over once on a fumble and did not throw an interception. The Wolves were also whistled for three less penalties.
Next week the Wolves will play at Lock Haven. Lock Haven has moved to the PSAC East this year when Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill joined the conference. Kick-off is slated for 6:00 PM. Cheyney students Josh Hughes and Rich Coleman are schedule to call the game on redzonemedia.com.
