Box Score
The Wolves Javier Garcia dominated from his linebacker position but it wasn't enough as Cheyney (0-9:0-6) fell 66-14 to PSAC league leader West Chester (9-0:0-6). Garcia ended the day with 15 tackles, three tackles for loss (11-yards), one forced fumble and one pass deflected. Linebacking corps mate Isaiah Fleming also recorded a solid performance registering 11 tackles and two tackles for loss.
But it was the West Chester offense that won the day. The Golden Rams freshman signal caller, Andrew Derr was 13 of 23 for 293 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Rondell White, the PSAC reigning player of the week posted 103 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns.
Place kicker Shawn Leo put the Golden Rams on the board at the 5:02 mark of the first quarter with a 23 yard field goal. With four seconds remaining in the opening quarter the Golden Rams found the end-zone for the first of their seven touchdowns on the day as White bowled his way off tackle for a six yard plunge. The Wolves would immediately answer on their next possession and Cheyney quarterback scored on a one yard keeper after orchestrating an 8 play 78 yard drive. The big play during the drive was a circus like catch from Khalif Dandy. The wide receiver ran a 35 yard out pattern and Thony hit him in stride as Dandy dove head first toward the Cheyney sideline and miraculously held on to the ball. On the afternoon Dandy caught six passes for 81 yards. Thony was 12 for 31 for 171 yards and two interceptions. The quarterback also rushed for both of Cheyney's scores.
The Wolves thought they were getting back in the game, trailing 10-7 early the second quarter. However, on the Golden Rams next play from scrimmage, Derr completed a 67 yard bomb to Erick Brundidge to push the margin back up to 10 where it stood for most of the second quarter. The Golden Rams started a drive from their own seven with 2:32 to play in the half and executed a perfect hurry up two minute drill. WCU went 93 yards in nine plays in just over two minutes to take a 24-7 lead into the locker room. The score once again came off the arm of Derr as he teamed up with Tim Keyser on a 21 yard corner route.
West Chester added touchdowns on three of their four possessions in the third quarter. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Thony again called his own number scoring from one yard out to make the score 45-14. WCU added three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the margin of victory.
Things don't get any easier for the Wolves next week. Cheyney will host Shippensburg who this week upset the fifth ranked team in the country Bloomsburg. Kick-off is slated for noon on Saturday, November 9.
