Box Score
Marcus Jones rushed for 110 yards on 18 carries to lead the Wolves ground attack but it wasn’t enough as Cheyney (1-4) fell to Mercyhurst 36-10.
It was a tail of two halves for the Wolves on the grid iron. In the first half Cheyney held fast holding the high powered rushing attack of the Lakers (4-1) in check. The Wolves took the opening kick-off and fumbled on their fourth play from scrimmage. Mercyhurst took over on their own 49 and marched the 51 yards in five plays but missed the PAT to take a short lived lead. On the Wolves next possession they marched 75 yards on nine plays capped by a Justin Watkins six yard rush around the right end and after a Jewel Jones PAT the Wolves were up 7-6. The second quarter started with each team controlling the ball on long drives that resulted in both teams putting points on the board. Mercyhurst orchestrated a 13 play 98 yard drive that resulted in a Brandon Brown Dukes three yard rush up the middle for his second of three touchdowns on the afternoon. Brown Dukes ended the game with 99 yards on 21 carries. The Wolves answered with a 14 play drive of their own but had to settle for a 38 yard field goal by Tyler Wilkinson as the teams went into the locker room with the Lakers owning a 13-10 lead.
The second was all Mercyhurst as the Lakers posted 23 unanswered points.
“We need to put to halves together,” stated head coach Ken Lockard. “This conference is too good where you can't take a play, quarter or half off."
Isaiah Fleming led the recorded 11 tackles to lead all players.
Next week the Wolves return to PSAC East play as they host Kutztown at 1:00 pm in O’Shields- Stevenson Stadium.
