LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Sr.
Eugene Lett poured in a career-high 35 points, but it was not enough as host Lock Haven University scored 56 points in the second-half to come away with a 94-88 victory over Cheyney University in PSAC East action Wednesday night inside Thomas Fieldhouse.
Lett surpassed his previous career-high of 13 in the first-half with 14 points as the Wolves (2-18, 1-16) led 40-38 at the break.The Sr. from Philadelphia, who doubles as the assistant coach on the women's team, was 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 at the line in the first twenty minutes.
So.
Craig McGlond scored seven points, including his first-career three-point shot, and added four rebounds, while
Lakeem Duncan paced the Wolves with seven rebounds.
Cheyney built a lead up to seven at 34-27 with a 9-to-0 run that started with a jumper from
Michael Oyefusi which was followed by an Oyefusi three-pointer.
Basir Fulmore and
Khaalis Carter added baskets to make it a 34-27 lead with 4:17 left in the first-half.
Lock Haven (12-11, 8-11 PSAC E) tied the game at 38-38 with an 11-to-4 run, but McGlond put the Wolves up by two at the half with a layup after an offensive rebound.
The contest was tied eight times in the first twenty minutes, Cheyney held a 19-15 edge off the boards with a 7-to-1 advantage off the offensive glass.
Al Blount made three from downtown to lead the Bald Eagles, who made five three's in the half, with 11 points.
The Wolves built a four-point lead early in the second half, but The Haven led by two when
Imir Bailey hit a jumper to tie the game at 54-54 all the fourteenth and last tie of the contest.
Julian Bond connected on a three-point shot, to put Lock Haven ahead for good, and spark a 10-to-2 run as Bond hit another from beyond the arc to make it a 64-56 lead with 9:03 remaining.
Lett kept the Wolves close with a personal seven-point run, but the Bald Eagles increased the lead to 10 at 83-73 with 2:46 left to play.
Cheyney responded and cut the deficit to four at 83-79 as Lett scored six straight, but The Haven went on a 7-point run to put the game away.
Lett ended the night by making 11-of-16 from field and 12-of-13 from the free-throw line to finish with 35 points. Bailey, who made his first-career three-point shot, scored a season-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while McGlond added 11 points.
The Wolves will host Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. inside Cope Hall.
