Second Half Turnovers Spell Doom for MBB as the Wolves Fall to the Bobcats

Cheyney, Pa. - Sophomore Kian Nixon (Upper Marlboro, MD,/ Feather River CC) scored a game and career-high 28 points but visiting Bryant & Stratton College at Buffalo (Buffalo) caused 20 second half turnovers to pull away for a 74-56 victory Sunday afternoon inside Cope Hall.

The Wolves (5-13) looking for a third straight victory, following back to back last second victories, led by one until a layup from the Bobcats (12-5) at the buzzer game them a 27-76 edge after 20 minutes.

Sophomore Nathan Rosario (Philadelphia, PA / Parkway HS) scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds and Nixon added a game high nine boards for the Wolves

Cheyney Jumped out to 10-4 advantage after the first six minutes. Sophomore Jabril Baxter (Philadelphia, PA / Academy at Palumbo HS ) opened the game with a basket, Nixon and Rosario each scored two buckets to give the Wolves its largest lead of the game at the 13:56 mark. After Buffalo pulled within one at 10-9, Rosario connected from beyond the arc the build the lead to 13-9. The Bobcats took its first lead of the game 14-13, a basket from Nixon put the game on a see-saw.

The Bobcats led 21-17, when Nixon went on a personal 9-4 run to give Cheyney the 26-25, with less than six seconds remaining following two from the charity stripe, but Armonee Felder raced the length of the court and made a layup as the buzzer sounded to give the Bobcats the 27-26 halftime lead.

Nixon scored 17 first half points to the lead all scorers, Felder came off the bench to spark the Bobcats and scored 10 points.

The Bobcats would never trail in the second half after scoring the first five points to take a 32-26 advantage. Freshman Dut Kuol (Aweil, South Sudan / Olympus Prep HS) made it 32-28. Buffalo pushed the lead to 37-28 when the Wolves made three free-throws to stay in touch 37-31.

The game stayed close, but the Wolves could not get any closer. Baxter and Rosario made shots and Nixon made two free throws to make it 44-37 game with 9:01 remaining. Buffalo then took control with an 8-0 run as the Wolves had difficulty with the Bobcats press and led 52-37 advantage with 7:35 to play.

Nixon made a three point and Rosario hit a three-point shot to close the gap to nine 52-43 with 6:52 to play, but the Wolves could not get any closer the rest of the way.

The Wolves will look to get back to its winning ways when it travels to Summerdale, PA on Thursday January 26 for a 7 PM tipoff vs Central Pennsylvania University.
