MEDIA, PA - The Cheyney University volleyball team took the short trip, to Media, Pa., on Wednesday night, but the hosts were not hospitable, as Penn State Brandywine defeated the visiting Wolves in three sets inside the Brandywine Commons.
Cheyney (3-8) was coming off a victory, a week ago vs Manor College,, could not keep the momentum going against the Nittany Lions (9-9) in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Freshman
Kennedy Jones (Havertown, PA, Haverford HS ) led the Wolves with 12 digs and tied for the team-best with five kills. Senior
Veronica Martin (Philadelphia, PA, Parkway West HS) recorded nine digs while adding a kill, an assist, an ace and a solo block.
Sophomore
Vita Fitch (York, PA, William Penn HS), who paced Cheyney with 12 assists, also added four digs, with two kills. Sophomore
Jireh Kelly (Salisbury, MD, Parkside, HS) equaled Jones with five kill and was credited with five digs, and Senior
Hassana Coleman (Philadelphia,PA, Freire Charter HS) had a kill and four digs in the match.
Cheyney will return to action on Tuesday night October 18, when it hosts Montgomery County Community College, with the first serve scheduled for 7 PM inside Alfred Cope Hall.
