Nazirah Purnell were named Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for the week ending April 15, announced by the league offices on Wednesday.
Austin earned ECAC Division II Field Athlete of the Week honors after picking up victories in the long and triple jump along with qualifying for the PSAC Championships in the 200m dash at the Osprey Open and Multi Meet over the weekend.
The sophomore opened the weekend with a victory in the triple jump on Friday after registering a jump of 11.68m/38'4" the second longest in Cheyney history, matched her career outdoor best distance of 5.43m/17'9.75" to captured the long jump title on Saturday, and also placed third in the 200 meter dash on Saturday in a time of 25.56 to qualify of the PSAC Championships.
Purnell was voted as ECAC Division II Rookie of the Week for her performance on Saturday in which she raced to a third-place finish, and broke her own Cheyney University record in the 800- meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 2:25.99.
The Wolves head to East Stroudsburg on Saturday, April 21 for the All American Meet.
