Men's Basketbal Drops Home Game to #23 Shippensburg

CHEYNEY, Pa – Cheyney University men's basketball came out hot, hitting 8 of its first 12 three point attempts, and trailed #23 Shippensburg 36-32 late in the first half, but the Raiders went on a 20-2 run at the end of the half and to start the second half en route to an 81-65 victory Wednesday night in a PSAC East action inside Cope Hall.

Jeff Lewis led the Wolves (2-21, 2-17 PSAC E) with 17 points and seven rebounds, Cliff St. Juste added 16 with four three pointers and Zahir Stewart scored nine points for the Wolves.

Dustin Sleva led all players with 25 points and 13 rebounds and Clay Connor scored 18 points and made five three-pointers for the Raiders (19-5, 15-4 PSAC E)
Cheyney trailed 26-12, when Imir Bailey sparked a 20-10 run with a three-point shot, to cut the lead down to four 36-32 with 3:37 to play.

St. Juste, followed with a triple, Lewis connected twice from beyond the arc, Derek Biney had a layup and a three-pointer and Stewart's three-pointer closed the deficit to 36-32.
Sleva scored the final five-points of the half and Shippensburg went to the break with a 41-32 advantage.

St. Juste was 3-of-5 from downtown in the first half to pace the Wolves, while Sleva made all eight of his free-throw attempts and led all scorers with 16 points.
Shippensburg went 11-of-12 (91.7%) from the line, while the Wolves did not earn a trip to the charity stripe.

The Raiders opened the second half with the first six points, and held a 66-45 lead, when Cheyney responded with a 9-0 run to make a 12-point game with 8:17 remaining in the game.

Lewis scored off the offensive glass, then blocked a shot and scored from Bailey, Kyle Parker hit a floater in the lane and Amir Boney scored and was fouled, then converted the three point play at the line.

Shippensburg responded with back-to-back three point shots to re-take control of the game and went on to the victory.

The Wolves will host Kutztown University on Saturday February 17, with the tipoff scheduled for 3:15 PM.

Following the women's game, which tips off at 1:00 pm, and prior to the men's contest, Cheyney University will honor our 1977-78 Men's Division II National Championship team with a pre-game ceremony on the Cope Hall court.

Tickets for the Saturday's game will be $5.00 for all fans attending.
