LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Jeff Lewis scored a season-high scored a game-high 14 points, but it was not enough as host Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, defeated the Cheyney University men's basketball squad 80-62 to capture the Battle of the First Thursday night inside Manuel Rivero Hall.
Olin Ugo, who went 5-of-7 from the field registered career-highs with 10-points and nine rebounds, Lewis made 6-of-10 from the field with two three-point shots coming in the first half for the Wolves (0-5) who ed by three points, 20-17 midway through the first twenty minutes, and tied the contest at 36-36, with less than a minute to play in the first half on a Lewis dunk off a steal from Cliff St. Juste.
The Lions (4-2) who closed the first half with the final four points, following and foul and technical, led 40-36 at the break then opened the second half with an 8-1 run to build an 11-point lead 48-37.
Cheyney responded with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit down to 50-45.
A layup from Amir Boney started the run, followed by a steal and basket from Zahir Stewart then Kyle Parker made two baskets to make it a 50-45 contest with 13:31 to play.
The Wolves would not score again until an Olin Ugo basket at the 8:08 mark as Lincoln scored the next 10 points to push the lead to 15, 60-45 en route to the victory.
Parker finished with 10 points, with six rebounds and three assists, Boney had nine points and six rebounds and St. Juste chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Sean James made five three-point shots to lead all scorers with 15 points and Deaquan Williams recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Lions.
???????Cheyney will finally have its home-opener on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3:00 p.m. vs Pitt. Johnstown and will host IUP on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in PSAC Crossover action inside Cope Hall.
