Low-Scoring Second Half Dooms Women's Basketball in Loss to Bloomsburg

CHEYNEY, Pa. – So. Briana Hedgepeth scored a career-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Cheyney University women's basketball team, but the Lady Wolves could only manage 16 points in the second half and dropped a 62-48 decision to visiting Bloomsburg University in PSAC East action inside Cope Hall.

Hedgepeth scored 13 second quarter points as the Wolves (3-12, 3-12 PSAC E) carried a 32-25 advantage into the second half. The Huskies (6-13, 5-10 PSAC E) scored the first seven points in the third and closed the quarter on a five-point-run to take a 45-41 advantage into the final period en route to their fifth win in the last six games.

So Marlon Herring added seven points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, So. Quinniea Gross registered 11 rebounds, three blocks and six points.

Jr. TaKayla Ellis who made two three- point shots to move into fifth-place all-time at Cheyney with 96 three-pointers made in her career, finished with eight points, three steals and two assists. Jr. Shania Stamper tied her career-high with seven assists.

Marissa Molnar came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points to lead three Huskies who reached double figures.

The Lady Wolves return to action on Monday night at 5:30, as they welcome HBCU rival The Lincoln University, in the Battle of the First.
