CHEYNEY, Pa. - The Lady Wolves jumped out to an 18-point first half lead and the visitors from Shippensburg University were never able to catch-up as the Cheyney University women's basketball team came away with a 64-62 PSAC East victory Saturday afternoon inside Alfred Cope Hall.

Kyra Hines-Allen led the way for the Wolves (3-19, 1-17 PSAC E) with 20 points and nine rebounds,
Amber Genwright, who finished with 16 points and five assists, made three, three-pointers in the fourth period as the Raiders (18-6, 14-6 PSAC E) kept getting close but could never tie the game in the second half.
Hines-Allen opened the game with a layup then Shippensburg moved ahead 3-2 on a three-point play from Logan Snyder.
It proved to be the only time the Raiders would be ahead in the contest. Genwright gave the Wolves the lead for good with a layup to spark a 6-point Cheyney run to make it 8-3.
Cheyney led 14-7, when it scored seven straight, to push the advantage to 14 points at 21-7 and the Wolves led 21-9 after the first.
Hines-Allen hit a three-point shot and Genwright followed with a layup, after the Raiders scored,
Genwright then connected from downtown to increased the margin to 18, at 29-11.
Shippensburg whittled away at the lead and scored the final seven points of the period to trail by only seven at the break 33-26.
Hines-Allen and
Adriene Small paced the Wolves with nine points apiece and Genwright added seven.
Snyder had nine and Logan Griffith eight for the Raiders.
Each team scored 13 points in the third and the Wolves held the 46-39 advantage heading to the final period.
Ship cut the lead down to three at 48-45, but Genwright answered with two three-pointers to give the Wolves a 10 point edge at 55-45 with 5:50 to play.
The Raiders responded with five straight, but Genwright rang the bell a third time in the fourth period and the Wolves led 58-50 with 3:06 to play.
Shippensburg would cut the lead down to two points on layup by Snyder with 40 seconds left, and trailed by two with 18 seconds remaining when Cheyney Sr.
Aerie DeJesus calmly made two free-throws to make it a two possession game as the Wolves won their first league game of the season.
The victory snaps a 12-game losing streak to the Raiders and stops a 12-game skid overall.
DeJesus finished with 11 points four rebounds and four assists, while Small added nine points five rebounds and three assists for the Wolves.
Snyder scored 18, Colleen Young 15 and Laura Gold scored 14-points and added five assists.
Cheyney connected on 7-of-17 from beyond the arc, while holding Shippensburg to a 2-of-15 performance on three's.
The Lady Wolves are back on the Cope Hall hardwood on Monday night when they host Kutztown University in a game that was originally scheduled to be played on Jan.23, but had to be postponed because of the snow storm. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
