LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -
Kyra Hines-Allen scored 20 points to lead three Cheyney University women's team members in double-figures in a 71-56 defeat at Lock Haven University Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division action inside Thomas Fieldhouse.
Hines-Allen paced the Wolves (2-18, 0-17 PSAC E) with 11 first half points as Cheyney held a 27-26 lead at the half.
The first twenty minutes saw four ties and seven lead changes, with the Wolves leading for most of the half and holding an advantage of eight points at 14-6 in the first period.
The Wolves led 34-33 at the 7:09 mark of the third period, but the Haven (10-13, 7-12 PSAC E) went on a 12-0 run to take the lead for good and build a 45-34 advantage with 4:07 left in the third.
Cheyney responded with an eight point run to cut the lead down to three at 45-42 with 2:55 remaining in the third period.
TaKayla Ellis started the run with a three-point shot,
Amber Genwright followed with a three-point play and Ellis added two free-throws.
The Bald Eagles led 49-44 after the third period.
Lock Haven scored the first seven points in the fourth period to build the lead up to 12 at 56-44.
Cheyney was unable to cut the lead below ten as J.J. Hilliard scored 10 of her game-high 25 points in the first five minutes of the fourth period to keep the lead in double figures.
Hines-Allen went 7-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe to finish with a team-high 20 points and added five rebounds.
Genwright and Ellis scored 12 points each,
Aerie DeJesus pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and
Shania Stamper recorded five steals.
The Wolves host Shippensburg University on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. inside Cope Hall in another PSAC East battle.
