Bulldogs Outscore Men's Basketball 99-85

BOWIE, Md. – Junior Rafiq Marshall scored 21 points and Freshman Zahir Stewart registered a career-high 19 as the Cheyney University men's basketball recorded a season-high 85 points, but it was not enough as host Bowie State University defeated the Wolves 99-85 in a non-league battle between HBCU rivals Monday night inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

Cheyney (0-6), fell behind early and trailed 48-30, before ending the first half on a 12-0 run to close within 48-42 at the break. Michael Briscoe netted 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while connecting on all eight of his shots from the field to lead the Bulldogs (3-3) to the victory.

Stewart made 5-of-8 from the field including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Amir Boney also registered a career-best with 10 points and two blocked shots.

The Bulldogs forced 23 turnovers and scored 30 points off turnovers, while the Wolves managed 15 points off 12 Bowie State miscues.

Sophomore Dikemba Amugo pulled down a season-high eight rebounds and junior Andre Allen scored eight points.

The Wolves head to western Pa for a pair of PSAC Crossover games this weekend. Cheyney heads to California, Pa. on Saturday and then faces Slippery Rock on Sunday.
