CHEYNEY, Pa. - Senior
Aerie DeJesus scored 12 points to lead the Cheyney University women's basketball team against Lock Haven University Saturday afternoon inside Cope Hall, but the Bald Eagles used a strong second half performance to come away with a 67-51 victory.
DeJesus added four rebounds, a team-high three steals and an assist for the Wolves (2-12, 0-10 PSAC East).
Amber Genwright scored 10,
Shania Stamper pulled down a team-best five rebounds and scored eight points and
Kyra Hines-Allen also chipped in with eight points.
Lysa Mealing recorded a double-double for Lock Haven (7-8, 4-7 PSAC East) with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Cheyney trailed by three after the first period 11-8, and fell behind 15-12 with 6:03 left in the second period, when it went on a 7-point run to take a 19-15 edge at the 2:33 mark.
A Stamper free-throw started the comeback,
Adriene Small hit a layup on a pass from DeJesus,
Marlon Herring made two free-throws and DeJesus capped the run with a layup following a steal.
The Haven scored nine of the next ten points to take a 24-20 lead after the first half.
Genwright opened the second half with two free-throws to cut the deficit to two at 24-22, but Lock Haven scored five straight to push the lead to seven at 29-22.
Lock Haven carried a 43-34 edge heading into the fourth period.
The Wolves made it a seven-point game on a Hines-Allen layup, but four straight by the visitors pushed the lead to 11 at 47-36.
Cheyney was not able to get closer than nine-points the rest of the game.
The Wolves return to action on Wednesday night when they host crosstown rival West Chester University with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
