Cheyney Falls 84-82 to West Chester

CHEYNEY, Pa. – Juwan Mullen scored 20 second-half points and matched his career high with 22, but crosstown rival West Chester hung on for an 84-82 victory in PSAC East action Wednesday night inside Alfred Cope Hall.

Lakeem Duncan scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half and Craig McGlond added a career-high 15 points for the Wolves (2-12, 1-10 PSAC East).

Duncan made 5-of-7 from the field including 3-of-5 from three-point range in the first half for Cheyney.

Malik Jackson connected on all three of his shots from beyond the arc and Avery Brown also scored nine to pace the Golden Rams (13-2, 10-2 PSAC East) to a 44-37 lead after 20 minutes.

The Wolves started the second half with a 10-to-1 and held a 47-45 lead at the 15:19 mark.

Rafiq Marshall opened with a layup, Mullen and Michael Oyefusi made layups to bring the wolves with two. Duncan hit a jumper to tie the game and Mullen put Cheyney up by two.

Matt Penecale ended the run with a basket, Mullen made two free-throws to restore the two point lead for the Wolves.

The big men then took over the game!

Thomas White scored for West Chester to tie the game, but McGlond came to life with a personal eight point run and Cheyney led 57-53 with 10:56 left to play.

The Golden Rams responded with an 8-to-0 run to take the lead for good, 61-57 at the 9:31 mark.

McGlond cut the lead down to two with two free-throws, but the Golden Rams would go on an 8-to-2 run and take a 69-61 edge with 7:05 left.

The Wolves responded with a 7-to-2 run and Mullen's three made it a three-point contest (71-68) with 5:40 remaining.

After two West Chester free-throws, Duncan would make a free-throw and Mullen made a layup and was fouled. His free-throw cut the lead to one at 73-72 with 4:29 on the clock.

Jackson connected from beyond the arc and White made it a six-point lead with a layup.

Marshall was fouled shooting a three-point shot and made all three free-throws to make it a three-point game at 82-79 with 12 seconds remaining.

Matt Wiseley, who pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, converted two free-throws to make it two score game at 84-79, which was important as Duncan drained his fourth three of the night as time expired, providing the final score of 84-82.

Cheyney shot 50% from the field (25-of-50) and 27-of-31 from the free-throw line.

Cheyney returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. when it travels to Shippensburg to take on the Raiders in another PSAC East battle.
