Deshawn Freeland (Sunderland, MD, Northern) scored the only touchdown of the day for the Wolves in the 2
nd quarter on a 9 yard pass from Sophomore QB
Dominick Trautz (Guttenberg, NJ, North Bergen) that was tipped in the end zone. The lone touchdown was not enough to overcome the early lead built up by Shippensburg who had already scored 39 points by that time. The game ended with a final score of 7-70 with the Red Raiders victorious at O'Shields Stephenson Stadium on an overcast Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
Shippensburg scored 7 points early with 13:27 showing in the 1
st quarter. Cheyney University only managed one first down on its next possession and gave the ball back to Shippensburg with 10:51 still left in the first. Shippensburg scored again on a touchdown but the point after was blocked by Sophomore
Gary Brown (Allentown, PA, Allentown HS). Shippensburg ended the 1
st quarter up 25.
The Red Raiders started the 2
nd quarter with a touchdown at the 11:30 mark making the score 0-32. Cheyney University fumbled on its next set of downs which led to another touchdown at 9:49. Cheyney University's only score was preceded by an Interception at the 50 yard line by sophomore linebacker
Daryll Ellison (Laureldale, PA, Muhlenberg HS) who returned to the Shippensburg 4 yard line after a 46 yard run. Shippensburg scored again ending the first half leading 46 points to Cheyney Universities 7.
Shippensburg controlled the clock for part of the third quarter and managed one touchdown giving the Red Raiders 53 points going into the 4
th quarter. Shippensburg started the fourth with a field goal at the 10:11 mark. Shippensburg scored again off a Cheyney turnover with 7:39 left in the fourth. Cheyney turned the ball over again which lead to another score and a final score of 7-70.
The Wolves return to action on Saturday (Oct. 31) when it hosts PSAC East rival West Chester University at 1 p.m.
