LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Cheyney University Junior LB
Rashod Knight (Freemansburg, PA, Liberty HS) picked up a fumble at his own nine yard line and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown, but it was not enough as host Lock Haven scored a 56-20 victory, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action, on a chilly and breezy Saturday afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.
Sophomore QB
Dominick Trautz (Guttenberg, NJ, North Bergen) completed a career-high 19 passes on 31 attempts and finished with a season-best 183 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Wolves (0-7, 0-4 PSAC).
QB Caleb Walton tossed four touchdowns and ran for another for the Bald Eagles (1-6, 1-3 PSAC), who picked up their first win of the season.
Lock Haven jumped out to a 21-point lead early in the second quarter and were looking to add to its advantage, when Sophomore LB
Keyson Dingle (Bayonne, NJ, Bayonne) forced a fumble at the Cheyney nine and Knight scooped up the loose ball and ran 91-yards to put the Wolves on the board and cut the deficit to 21-7.
After the Bald Eagles scored to make it a 28-7 contest, Cheyney responded with a 12 play 73-yard drive that was capped by a Trautz touchdown pass to freshman
Devin Miller (Williamsport, PA, Williamsport). Miller's first career touchdown cut the lead to 28-13 with 2:39 left in the half.
Lock Haven replied with a score with just 47 seconds left in the half and then again early in the third quarter with TD tosses from Walton to put the game away.
Cheyney's
Brandon French (Brooklyn, NY, Midwood HS) found the end zone, for the first time in his career, with a run from 13 yards out midway through the fourth quarter. The Wolves held the ball for nine-minutes and 32-seconds in going 81-yards in 14-plays for its final tally of the game.
The two long drives helped Cheyney to a nearly 10-minutes advantage in time of possession over Lock Haven.
The Wolves return to action on Saturday (Oct. 24) when it hosts PSAC East rival Shippensburg at 1 p.m.
