Once again the Wolves gave nationally ranked East Stroudsburg all they could handle as Cheyney said farewell to Deshawn Curtis on Senior Day. Curtis left it all on the floor as he led all players with 30 points. Jerrod Johnson recorded his first double double of the season scoring 11 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Cheyney (4-20:4-11) dropped a hard fought decision to #6 ranked nationally East Stroudsburg (14-11:9-6).
The Warriors led for most of the first half and had as big as a 13 point before the Wolves were able to trim the deficit to 10 at the break. The Wolves kept on battling and finally were able to take a 64-63 after Curtis drained a jumper at the six minute mark. The short jumper capped a Cheyney 8-0 run in which Curtis scored six of the Wolves points. Over the next four minutes the contest was nip-and-tuck. Curtis knotted the game at 72 with a pair of free throws with 1:43 to play. He was 14-18 from the charity stripe on the afternoon. But the Warriors would out-score the Wolves 10-1 in the closing minutes to seal the victory.
Whis Grant led the Warriors with 24 points and Rasheed Moore tallied 18.
Cheyney looks to end the season with a victory on Wednesday night at Lock Haven. The game can be heard live over the internet at redzonemedia.com. Josh Hughes and Rich Coleman will call all of the action.
