Wolves Comeback But Can’t Hold On

Cheyney (3-20:3-10) fell 68-65 to Kutztown (8-14:6-6) in PSAC East basketball action. The Wolves found themselves down by as many as 12 points late in the first half but managed to come back and owned a seven point lead with 3:38 to play only to see it slip away.

Cheyney trailed 35-25 at intermission but went on a 7-1 to start the second half to trim the deficit to one, 36-35. The Wolves took their first lead of the second half at the 14:27 mark after Dequan Newton converted a lay-up. However, the Golden Bears answered back and took a four point lead. Coach Stephens turned to Deshawn Curtis who scored 10 straight points for the Wolves during a 10-1 run to turn a four point deficit into a five point lead, 54-49 with 8:56 to play. A Curtis dunk at the 3:38 mark, gave the Wolves their biggest lead of the night, seven points (65-58). However the Wolves would be held scoreless the rest of the way as the Golden Bears scored 10 unanswered points the rest of the way.

Curtis came off the bench to pace Cheyney with 15 points. Khalil Meadows chipped in 12 while Jerrod Johnson added 10.

Tracy Peal paced the Golden Bears with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Kutztown shot an impressive 25-44 (.568) and out-rebounded the Wolves 38-31.

The Wolves will take the week off to group before traveling to Millersville next Wednesday.
