Box Score 2 Cheyney fell to Shippensburg and Chowan by the identical score of 3-0 in women's volleyball. In a tri-match contested at Shippensburg the Lady Wolves dropped a three setter to both the Red Raiders and the Hawks.
Against PSAC foe, Breanna Joseph paced the Lady Wolves with 10 kills and 10 digs but it wasn't enough as Cheyney fell 25-20, 25-12 and 27-25. In the first set, Cheyney and Shippensburg were tied at 9 in the early going. The Red Raiders were able to run off five straight points and capture a lead they would not surrender. Cheyney managed to cut the deficit to two (14-12) but could not get any closer. In the second set, Shippensburg jumped out to a 7-1 before cruising to victory. The third set was the most competitive of the match. Cheyney held an early 6-2 lead and still owned a 13-9 lead midway through the set. Shippensburg rallied to knot the set at 18 before taking a 19-18 lead. Cheyney returned the favor to tie the set at 23. Kills CUs Katherine Brooks and Virshae Campbell tied the set at 24 and then again at 25. However, the Red Raiders tallied the next point points to secure the three set victory.
In the night cap, Cheyney fell to Chowan, in its' final non-conference match of the season, by scores of 25-10, 25-7 and 25-13. In each of the three sets, Chowan jumped out early and kept the pressure on to earn the victory. Joseph led Cheyney with 10 kills. Kennetha Wallace led the squad with 10 assists. Three Lady Wolves recorded double figures in digs. Virshae Campbell, Joseph and Wallace registered 11, 10 and 10 digs respectively.
Cheyney is back in action on Tuesday night. The Lady Wolves will host crosstown rival West Chester at 7:00 PM in Cope Hall.
