Cheyney got back to .500 for the first time since mid-December with a 103-79 victory at Kutztown (5-21:4-16).  The Wolves (12-12:10-10) were led by Jason Sabb’s career high tying 35 points.

Deshawn Curtis tallied 20 points and Rashaad Slappy added 15 points and a team high nine rebounds. Darius Collins scored a career high 14 points and was a perfect five of five from the field and four of four from behind the arc.

Cheyney shot a blistering 59% (43-73) from the field and out-rebounded Kutztown 41-28.

It was the first time that Cheyney eclipsed the century mark since the 2009-10 season opener against Pfeiffer in which the Wolves prevailed 100-90.

The Wolves got off to a slow start and were trailing 14-4 after 4:40.  However a 19-3 run punctuated with a Sabb dunk gave the Wolves a 23-17 lead with 9:44 to play in the half.  Sabb had eight points during the run.  Cheyney was able to build the lead up to 15 before settling on a 46-36 lead at halftime.

Kutztown came out of the locker room with something to prove and went on a 12-4 run over the first three minutes to make it a two point game.  Cheyney answered with a Sabb six point spurt to push the advantage back to eight.  But a pair of three-pointer by Micah Fraction brought the lead back down to a duce.  Cheyney would come right back with a 15-2 run to seize control of the contest.  Kutztown, playing with a depleted roster, was not able to get the lead to single digits the final thirteen minutes.

Micah Fraction paced the Golden Bears with 35 points.

Cheyney is back in action on Saturday afternoon at Shippensburg.
