Rashaad Slappy registered a double double tallying 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to lead Cheyney (9-10:7-8) to a 68-65 over Millersville (14-7:10-5). It was Slappy’s third double double of the season and the 13 rebounds represented a career high.
Cheyney outscored Millersville 15-5 to end game erasing the Marauders biggest lead of the night, seven points.
The Wolves had a balanced attack with four players netting double figures. Besides Slappy, Norfleet scored 15, Deshawn Curtis 11 and Jason Sabb 10.
It was Norfleet who gave the Wolves the lead for good after converting a layup with 1:44 to play turning a one point deficit into a lead. The Wolves were able to force a turnover and Calvin Brown hit 1-2 from the line to push the lead to two. After the Marauders missed a pair of free throws Cheyney turned the ball over and committed a foul sending Larry Grant to the line where he made 1- 2 with :37 seconds remaining. Sabb converted a pair from the charity stripe to push the lead to three however an Xavier Mumford put back with :16 second remaining cut the lead back to one . Norfleet then proceeded to hit a pair of free throws to send the lead back to three. Millersville was able to get a three pointer off but it did not find the mark.
Grant paced the Marauders with 24 points including 11-17 from the line.
Cheyney will host Mansfield on Sunday as it looks to get back to .500. Tip-off is scheduled for the 3:00 pm.
