WBB Battle of the Firsts 5:30 Tonight at Lincoln

Cheyney, PA. – Cheyney University women's basketball starts its busiest, and most challenging, week of the season on Monday, when it travels to Lincoln, Pa., for the Battle of the Firsts vs HBCU rival Lincoln University, with the tipoff scheduled for 5:30 PM inside Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.

The contest marks the first time the teams have competed against each other since November 12 of 2019. It also marks the return of first year Cheyney Head Coach Alishia Mosley, who was an assistant coach for Lincoln, during the last Battle of the Firsts, after joining the Lions as and assistant on the men's and women's squads at Lincoln prior 2019 season. Cheyney senior guard JaNya Lilly (Baltimore, MD, Lincoln University) is also making a return to Lincoln, after three seasons as a member of the Lions team, Lilly scored five points as a freshman at Lincoln the last time the teams met.

The Wolves, playing for the first time in two seasons, are 1-3 on the season falling at home to Washington Adventist University on November 30 by a 79-57 score. The Lions improved to 4-5, snapping a four=game losing skid, with a road victory at West Chester University on Thursday night. The Lions, who are the reigning CIAA champions and made their first ever trip to the NCAA Championships a season ago, have captured the last eight matchups in the series.

Three Wolves average scoring in double-figures, paced by sophomore Maciyah Washington (Bowie, MD, CCBC Essex), who leads Cheyney with a 19.0 average, junior guard Nytasia Braxton (Camden, NJ, Southeastern CC) leads the Wolves dishing out nearly four assists per game, with three steals per contest, is second in scoring at 17.8 an outing and second in rebounding at almost nine boards a game. Lilly is averaging a career high 15.8 points and 6.8 rebounds, while sophomore Jireh Kelly (Salisbury, MD, Parkside HS) lead the way with over 10 boards a game.

The Wolves will continue its busy week with, two more games vs NCAA Division II opponents, starting with a 7:00 PM road contest on Friday at Wilmington University and then close out the week and the 2022 year with a home contest vs the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday, December 17 with the tipoff scheduled for 1:00 PM inside Cope Hall. The Cheyney men's team vs Newport News Apprentice will follow on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
