SMYRNA, Del. — Cheyney University cross country continued its 2026 season at the Delaware State University Sting Invite on Friday, September 11, competing in the men's 5K race hosted by Delaware State University. The Wolves placed seventh overall in the team standings with a total time of 1:49:19, an average time of 21:51, and a team score of 180.
Cheyney was led by Christopher Taylor, who delivered the Wolves' top performance of the meet. Taylor finished 29th overall, crossing the line in 18:50.3 with an average mile pace of 6:03.8. His effort set the tone for Cheyney and gave the Wolves a strong front-runner in a competitive field.
Denim Greene followed with a solid race for the Wolves, finishing 35th overall in 19:34.7. Greene averaged 6:18.0 per mile, giving Cheyney its second finisher inside the top 35 and helping strengthen the team's scoring group.
Cheyney also received a determined effort from Kimani Smith, who placed 38th overall with a time of 20:22.6. Smith averaged 6:33.5 per mile, continuing the Wolves' push through the middle of the race and adding another important scoring performance for the team.
Reese Jefferson added to Cheyney's team total with a 42nd-place finish, completing the course in 21:55.0. Aaron Chestnut rounded out the Wolves' scoring lineup, finishing 46th overall in 28:37.2. Together, the five Cheyney finishers helped the Wolves post a complete team score in the 5K event.
The meet gave Cheyney another valuable opportunity to build race experience, pacing discipline, and team consistency early in the season. With Taylor, Greene, and Smith leading the way under the 21-minute mark, the Wolves will look to continue building momentum and closing gaps as the 2026 cross country season moves forward.
