CHEYNEY, PA. – Cheyney University women's basketball finally got to play in front of the home crowd after starting the season with seven games away from Cope Hall, but the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown spoiled the festivities with a 71-53 victory Saturday afternoon in PSAC Crossover action.
Yasmine Dorrielan grabbed 13 rebounds and
TaKayla Ellis scored a team-high 14 points with four assists to lead the Wolves (1-7, 0-3 PSAC E).
Gabrielle Smith led tallied a game-high 21 points and Olivia McCabe scored 16 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to pace the Mountain Cats (4-3, 2-1 PSAC W).
Marlon Herring added nine rebounds and seven points for Cheyney.
The Wolves led 17-15 after consecutive baskets from
Drazana Vulic and
Ceani Beaden with 22 seconds left in the first quarter, but McCabe grabbed and offensive rebound and connected on a layup to tie the game at 17-17 at the end of the first ten minutes.
The Mountain Cats then went on a 13-2 run to start the second quarter to take a 30-19 advantage with 6:15 to play in the second.
Dorrielan scored from Ellis and then found Vulic to cut the deficit to seven at 30-23, but a 13-0 run over the next three minutes put the game out of reach.
The Wolves have a tough task on Sunday afternoon as No.7 Indiana University of Pennsylvania brings its 6-0 record to Cope Hall for a 1:00 PM tipoff.
