MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Sr.
Kyra Hines-Allen led the Cheyney University women's basketball team with 18 points and eight rebounds, but the Lady Wolves fell 72-53 at Millersville in PSAC Eastern division action inside Pucillo Gymnasium Wednesday night.
Amber Genwright added 12 points for Cheyney (2-17, 0-15 PSAC E), and
Aerie DeJesus finished with 10 points.
The Marauders (13-7, 9-7 PSAC E) outscored the Wolves 34-0 off the bench, were led by Alayah Hall with 13 points and Kendra Bamberger who was a perfect 6-for-6 for 12 points who both came off the Millersville bench.
The first quarter was a see-saw affair that ended with the Marauders ahead 20-16.
Cheyney spotted Millersville a 7-2 lead to open the game, but responded with a 7-0 run to take a 9-7 advantage with 5:14 remaining in the first.
Hines-Allen made a three-point play to start the run, Genwright tied the game with a layup and
Adriene Small put the Wolves ahead.
Bamberger tied the game with a layup from Celeste Robinson and Robinson then made a jumper to give the lead back to Millersville.
Shania Stamper scored to make it an 11-11 contest, the Marauders followed with a 9-1 run to lead 20-12 with 44 seconds left in the period.
Small connected on a jump shot and Genwright closed the quarter with two free-throws to cut the deficit to four at 20-16.
Hines-Allen score four points early in the second period to keep the Wolves within six, but the Marauders went on a seven point run to push the lead to 13 with 5:45 to play and maintained the advantage at the break leading 40-27.
Cheyney could not close the lead below 10 in the second half.
Stamper finished with nine points, three rebounds and three steals.
The Wolves return home on Saturday to take on East Stroudsburg in another PSCAC battle at 1 PM inside Cope Hall.
