WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Cheyney University Sr.,
Kyra Hines-Allen posted a season-high 24 points, her fourth straight game with at least 20 points, but host West Chester University ended the Wolves winning streak at two with a 57-47 PSAC East victory Wednesday night inside Hollinger Field House.
Hines-Allen connected on 12-of-18 shots from the field and grabbed five rebounds for the Wolves (4-20, 2-18 PSAC E) who were coming off back-to-back victories including a 78-62 win over Kutztown on Tuesday night.
Anna Kuntz recorded a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Golden Rams (19-5, 16-4) who now have a two game cushion over Shippensburg at the top of the PSAC East.
Cheyney led 4-3 for its only advantage of the night.
West Chester jumped out to a 20-8 when
TaKayla Ellis made a three- pointer and cut the deficit to nine at 20-11 at the end of one period.
Hines-Allen opened the second with back-to-back layups to make it a seven-point Cheyney run to get the Wolves to within five at 20-15.
West Chester led 29-24 at the break.
Hines-Allen went 6-of-8 from the field for 12 points, while Kuntz secured her double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Wolves started the second-half on a 5-1 run to even the game at 30-30 with 6:48 to play in the third period.
Kendall Benovy would put West Chester ahead to stay and ignite a six-point run for the Golden Rams.
Cheyney responded with a 6-to-1 run to cut the lead to one at 37-36 and West Chester scored to make it a 39-36 game after three periods.
The lead went to five at 41-36, but Hines-Allen and
Aerie DeJesus converted layups for bring Cheyney to within one with 7:38 to play.
West Chester scored the next eight points to build the lead to nine and eventually come away with the 57-47 victory.
The Golden Rams held a 51-33 edge on the boards and a 21-to-5 advantage in second-chance points.
DeJesus ended the night with seven points, three steals and three rebounds,
Marlon Herring came off the bench to grab a team-high eight rebounds.
Cheyney heads to Bloomsburg on Saturday, when it takes on the Huskies in the final road contest of the season, with the tipoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
