Kyra Hines-Allen (Montclair, N.J., Montclair) recorded a double-double on opening night with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as Kutztown University women's basketball team defeated the Wolves 84-58 in the PSAC opener for both squads Wednesday night inside Keystone Arena.
Hines-Allen shot 75.0 percent on 6-of-8 shooting and added three steals. Sr.
Aerie DeJesus (West Chester, Pa., West Chester East) also scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field and connected for the Wolves (0-1, 0-1 PSAC) lone three-point make of the game and three steals.
Amber Genwright (Chester, Pa., Sanford Prep School) reached double figures with 12-points and shared the team-high honors with three assists. So.
Shania Stamper (Baltimore, MD, Edgewood) dished out three helpers and added seven points for Cheyney.
Kutztown (1-0, 1-0 PSAC) jumped out to a 15 point lead 27-12 after the first ten minutes of play as the teams played their first games under the new 4, 10-minute quarters rules instituted by the NCAA prior to the season.
Natayla Lee led the Golden Bears with 21 points, Kelsey Watson had 18 points and eight rebounds and Mariah Maciejewski came off the bench to record a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for Kutztown.
Cheyney shot 50.0 percent in the second half on 12-of-24 from the field and the Wolves outscored the Golden Bears by a 19-18 margin in the fourth quarter.
The Wolves head west for a pair of games over the weekend as they continue on their five-game road trip to open the season.
On Saturday Cheyney will face Clarion University at 1 p.m., and on Sunday the Wolves will take on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, with the tip off also scheduled for 1 p.m.
