Despite 12 points by Tamara Russell and 11 points from Kyra Hines-Allen, Cheyney (1-16:1-13) fell 65-48 to West Chester (11-7:8-6) at Hollinger Fieldhouse.
Cheyney hung around for the first twenty minutes but it was all West Chester in the second half. Cheyney went into the locker room down 22-18.
The Golden Rams scored the first nine points of the second to extend the lead to double figures. The Lady Wolves answered with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 33-27 with 12:29 remaining. However, West Chester scored the next seven points to push the lead up to 13 with just over nine minutes remaining. Cheyney was unable to threaten the rest of the way.
Cheyney won the battle of the boards out-rebounding West Chester 53-41 but coughed the ball up 28 times and shot only 27% from the field.
Alex Lennon paced the Golden Rams with 17 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks.
Cheyney is back in action on Saturday in Cope Hall against Shippensburg. Tip-off is 1:00 pm.
